Vernon Eugene “Gene” Watson, 69 died December 19, 2015 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, KS. He was born November 11, 1946 in Garden City, KS the son of George and Nellie (Lunblade) Watson. He attended Garden City High School, Garden City, KS. He worked in the Maintenance Department at National Beef Packing Plant in Liberal. He worked for Envision in Greeley CO. He was an avid Broncos Fan and enjoyed collecting knives, models cars, working crossword puzzles. He loved his dog Missy. On July 7, 2006 he married Sheila Marie Avers in Liberal, KS. They were together for 26 years. She died April 19, 2012.Other survivors include2 Sons Marshal Watson and wife Tish Colorado Springs, CO Michael Avers and wife Aubrey Greeley, CO1 Stepson Michael Briggs Federal Way, WA4 Daughters Sherri Watson-Shearer Denver, COMichele Carey and husband Alan Keith Garden City, KSJudith Avers and wife Frances Southwick Pittsburg, PACasey Watson - Wolk and significant other Bree Downs Liberal, KS1 Brother Larry Watson and wife Dee Garden City, KS1 Brother-in-law Marvin Chance, Sr. and Wife Nancy Liberal, KS1 Sister Linda Watson2 Sister-In-Law Doris Goddard Liberal, KS Cleo Chance-Webb Hugoton, KS17 Grandchildren Nathaniel and Kaleb Vervalin; Haylee, Kylee Keith; Michael Watson; Levi, Samuel and Emily Sperstad; Sean and Lindsey Watson; Sara Hooper; Natalie Sperstad; Diana Sperstad; Chandler Brockett; Owen Downs – Gilmore Skyler and Kaeleigh Avers. 11 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents 1 Daughter Alicea Sperstad and 1 Brother Walter Watson. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 26, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church with Lori Hensley presiding. Burial will be in Liberal Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to Noon Thursday and 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Brenneman Funeral Home.Memorial contributions may be sent to the Vernon Watson Memorial Fund in care of the Brenneman Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Liberal, KS 67901.
