Verda Elizabeth Hoffman, 95, died Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, KS. She was born April 11, 1921, at Raymore, MO, the daughter of William Henry and Mabel Mae (Bagshaw) Turpin. She has been a resident of Liberal since the age of 5.
She had attended Liberal High School in Liberal, KS. She was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, charter member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She also was a member of the J.U.G. Club and the Pancake Campers and Hikers. Her hobbies included arts and crafts, painting, sewing, crocheting, and knitting. She loved to cook for her family.
On June 19, 1938, she married James Herschel Hoffman at Hugoton, KS. He died March 12, 1990.

2 Sons- Jim Hoffman and wife Beverly of New Braunfels, TX;
Basil E. Hoffman and wife Lana of Newalla, OK;
1 Daughter- Rosemary Weaver and husband Larry, of Liberal, KS;
7 Grandchildren - Anthony Hoffman; Brittany Hoffman; Bethany Hoffman; Jason Hoffman; Bradley Hoffman; Jennifer Carter; Jayme Barrowman.
5 Great Grandchildren – Andrew Hoffman; Brandon Hoffman; Sarah Hoffman, Gwenda Tillery, and Stan Barrowman, Jr.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dorothy Louise Hoffman; step-brother Edwin Mortimer; 2 step sisters, Jean Bevan and Evelyn Wallace; Granddaughter, Kristi Hoffman and Great Grandson, Matthew Carter.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ with Rev. Terry Ford presiding. Burial will take place in Restlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be 1 – 5 pm Sunday, 9 am – 8 pm Monday with the family present to greet friends from 6 – 7 pm Monday at the funeral home.
