Venita Ruth Combs

Venita Ruth Combs, 81, of Liberal, Kansas died at the Good Samaritan Society in Liberal, Kansas on September 27, 2020. She was born February 11, 1939 to Ralph V Hester and Rose H Sutherland in Gate, Oklahoma. She was raised on the family ranch in Knowles, Oklahoma. She graduated high school in 1958 from Knowles High School. Venita went to Northwest Oklahoma University in Talhalgu, Oklahoma earning a bachelor’s degree in 1975. She joined the Women’s Army Corp from 1958-1961, then moved to the reserves in 1975 to finish her bachelor’s degree. During her enlistment she trained at the Signal Corps School and studied Cryptography. She was also awarded the Good Conduct Medal for her honorable service. On August 14, 1966 she married Jimmy Combs. He preceded her in death.

After serving in the Army and completing her degree she worked at both the Holiday Inn and Liberal Inn in Liberal, Kansas as an auditor.

She is survived by her brother Gene (Linda) Hester of Gate, Oklahoma. Sisters Karen (Don) Seibel of Chandler, Arizona and Donna Hester Moody of Wichita, Kansas.

Proud Grandmother of Shawna Lyn Polk, John C. Combs Jr. and his wife Tina, Travis James Combs, and Justin Roy Combs and wife Dalia. She was also a great grandmother to Emily Madison Polk, Jordyn Polk, Carter Polk, Helena Combs, Connor Combs, Harper Combs, Madilynn Combs, and Allison Combs


Beloved Mother of John “JC” Combs Sr. who also preceded her in death on 9-12-2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Victor Roy Hester, and her sister Helen Hester.
Cremation has already taken place.
