Roscoe Richard Hoddy, age 82, of liberal, Kansas, died on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal. Roscoe was born on Friday May 3, 1940, in Eureka, Kansas, the son of Roscoe Richard Hoddy Sr. and Evelyn Florence (Thomas) Hoddy.
Roscoe worked on the family farm growing up, and then as mechanic on an oil rig. For many years, he was an over the road truck driver, and eventually owned his own trucking company. He always made sure that whatever trucking trip he was on, he was home for Christmas for his family.
Roscoe Married Estelene Ruth Heronemus on December 17, 1967. After 53 years of marriage Estelene preceded him in death on August 24, 2020.
Roscoe was a proud member of the NRA and the AARP. He was confirmed at Good Shepard Lutheran Church. He loved camping and riding motorcycles. He was a very loving and caring to his family and his friends.
Roscoe is survived by his two daughters; Melinda Baker and her husband Richard of Liberal, Kansas and Katherine “Kat” Grandy of Tyrone, Oklahoma. Two grandchildren Curtis Baker and his wife Leslie and Elizabeth Baker. One great grandchild, Brayden. He is survived by his daughters in his heart, Tera Piper and Jamie McBride, of Liberal.
He is survived by two sisters, Velma Zink, of Spring Hill, Kansas and Pauline Hawk; brother, David Hoddy; one sister in law, Anna Means and her husband JR; and one brother in law, Clarence Heronemus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Estelene, grandson Richard Yorio and great grandchildren Kena and Kalen Baker. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Freda Kincaid and Pamella Pully; Brothers Victor, Everett and Jerry Hoddy; and the baby Hoddy twins, and baby Clinton.
Visitation for Mr. Hoddy will be held on Monday, December 12, 2022, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 West 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas. The family will be present to accept condolences from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Funeral Services will be held at 10am, Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at the Hornung Family Funeral Home Chapel, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas, with Reverend Jeffery Mitchell presiding.
Interment will be at the Restlawn Cemetery in Liberal, Kansas
