Romualda Uribe

Romualda Uribe, better known as Ruby or “Viejita” to her closest family and friends, aged 81, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025, in Liberal, Kansas.

She was born on February 7, 1943, in Las Higueras, Rodeo Municipality, Durango. She was the daughter of Mr. Ramón Amaya and Mrs. Lorenza Arreola. She married Mr. Rafael Uribe Herrera on March 13, 1960. They remained together for 62 years. They had 10 children and raised their grandson Javier Uribe Jr. as their own son.

Ruby was known for being a cheerful, kind, helpful person with a very generous soul. She always adapted easily to any social circle and age. She was distinguished by her joking and affectionate nature, always attentive to the people she loved. She greatly enjoyed talking on the phone with her family and friends, and was always able to recognize the virtues of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to congratulate them on their birthdays and, sometimes, she was not ashamed to sing songs to them about the occasion. As a mother and grandmother, she was loving, but also scolding when the situation warranted it. Throughout her life, she cultivated a great number of friendships.

Ruby was a fervent follower of her faith. She devotedly attended Bethel Baptist Church, where she considered all its members to be part of her spiritual family. Her love for God and her dedication to prayer were a constant source of strength and guidance.

With unwavering strength, until the end of her days, she never gave up. She constantly fought to maintain an optimal state of health. Despite the multiple crises she went through, she never showed an attitude of defeat or victimhood. Her faith in God was an example of life for all those around her. It was that faith that kept her going until the last days of her life.

Ruby was always proud of the family that touched her. She knew they all loved her unconditionally, which made her feel stronger and supported.
