Myrtice M. Dawkins McColm, 92, died March 18, 2011 at Liberal, Kansas.She was born August 18, 1918 in Tyrone, OK, the daughter of Benjamin and Myrtle (Emmons) Miller. She graduated from Bucklin High School, Bucklin, KS in 1936 and earned a Bachelor’s (1964) and Master’s degree (1970) from Fort Hays State University. She was a longtime educator beginning her teaching career in one-room country schoolhouses. She taught in country schools near Wright, Fowler and Bucklin, KS. Later she taught in Bucklin, KS and Mullinville, KS retiring in 1976. She was a member of the Christian Church of Bucklin, KS and attended St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Liberal, KS. She was a life-time member of the Order of Eastern Star, Order #193 and several clubs and professional organizations during her lifetime including Rebekah, Music Club, EnAnvante, Charme, National Education Association, and International Reading Association. On April 27, 1941, she married Eugene W. (Bud) Dawkins at Bucklin, KS. He died Jan. 28, 1968. On April 10, 1976, she married Vernon J. McColm at Bucklin, KS. He died Aug. 26, 1996. Survivors include two daughters: Debbie Brant and her husband, Ronnie, Liberal, KS; Donna Squires. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, Mervin and Merle Miller. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the Bucklin Cemetery in Bucklin, KS with the Rev. Jerry Odle presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm with the family present from 6:30 – 7:30 pm to receive friends on Monday, March 21, 2011 at the Brenneman Funeral Home, Liberal, KS.
