MOORE, MARGARET COLVINMarch 9, 1919 – February 7, 2015Margaret Moore, 95, died February 7, 2015 in Liberal, KS. Margaret was born on March 9, 1919 in Liberal and was the daughter of Ralph and Kathryn “Kitty” (Jordan) Colvin, long-time residents of Liberal. Margaret and her sister, Kathryn “Kay” Colvin, grew up in Liberal, attending Garfield Elementary School and Liberal High School, and spent their summers in Cuchara, CO where their father had built a family summer cabin in the 1920’s. Margaret attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and then married John W. “Jack” Moore, also of Liberal, in Palo Alto, CA in 1939, before his graduation from Stanford University. After serving four years in Europe during WWII, Jack ran the Liberal Gas Company for many years and he and Margaret had six children. Jack died on June 16, 2003. Margaret was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and P.E.O Chapter, AP. She loved art and music. She took painting classes and was on the original board for the Baker Arts Center where she was active for many years. She also participated as a violinist for many years in the Southwest Symphony Society, which she helped found and organize. Margaret was an avid gardener and also loved to hunt wild mushrooms in the hills near Cuchara, CO, both passions that she passed on to her children. She was a member of the Pennywatchers Investment Club. She enjoyed traveling, reading, arguing politics, and enjoying life in many ways. She was also keenly interested in the careers and activities of her children.Margaret is survived by three sons: Michael Moore (and wife, Lisa) of Liberal; John W. Moore, Jr. (and wife, Connie) of Guymon, OK; Casey Moore (and wife, Marcia) of Corvallis, OR; and three daughters: Katie Moore Haskins (and husband, Burton) of Denver, CO; Margaret “Molly” Moore of Ft. Worth, TX; and Jane Moore of Liberal; and two nieces, Lee Wilson Egbert of Santa Fe, NM and Ann Jordan of Glorieta, NM. Margaret had eleven grandchildren: Michael Adkins, Patricia Adkins, Michelle Moore Russo, Derek Moore, Lacey Moore Johnston, Trey Moore, Betsy Moore Ferguson, Ann Moore Leeming, Renee Coiyer Smoots, Laura Coiyer and Makayla Coiyer; and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Kathryn “Kay” Wilson on July 11, 2013.A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church on Saturday, Feb. 14th at 11:00 AM, with a reception to follow at the church. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorial contributions may be made in Margaret’s name to St. Andrews Episcopal Church or to the Southwest Symphony Society, in care of Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd, Liberal, KS 67901.
