Edith Scruggs

Edith Lorene Scruggs 95, died March 1, 2016 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.She was born Sept. 28, 1920 in Grady Co, OK the daughter of Robert L. and Nellie C. (Newberry) Richards. She has been a resident of Liberal since 1957 moving from Russell, KS. She was a sales clerk for J.C. Penny, Anthony’s, Just For You, Connie’s Hallmark and also South Middle School Lunch Ladies. She was a member of the First South Baptist Church and the Prestige Club at First National Bank. On October 7, 1939 she married Joe C. Scruggs in Plainview, Texas. He died on Nov. 6, 2000. Survivors include:2 Sons W. Glenn Scruggs and wife Carol Liberal, KS Ronnie E. Scruggs and friend Ronnie Lubbock, TX2 Daughters Linda Sue Thomas and husband Earl Bakersfield, CA Anna Marie Brown and husband Henry Enid, OK3 Brothers G.C. Freeman Tulsa, OK Gene Freeman Dallas, TX Dalton Freeman Dallas, TX2 Sisters Nina Becker Dallas, TX Corrine Street Kress, TX14 Grandchildren 25 Great Grandchildren and 18 Great Great GrandchildrenShe was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Fred Freeman, Lee W. Freeman, Bill Freeman, and Eldridge Freeman; 1 sister Mary Nell Downs; 1 step brother, John Freeman; 1 grandson; and 1 great grandsonFuneral service will be held at 10:00 am Friday, March 4, 2016 at the First Southern Baptist Church with Pastor Jack Jacob presiding. Burial will be held in Restlawn Cemetery. Visitation time will be 2 – 8 pm Thursday at Brenneman Funeral Home.
