She was raised on her family farm outside Hooker, OK. Althea grew up in an era when not all children had the opportunity to attend high school. She always regretted not being able to do so. However, at 99 years old, she was able to see lots of changes in the world and had many wonderful life experiences and love which taught her the important things. On October 22, 1938 she married Duane Austin Hamlin in Boise City, Oklahoma. They began their married life in Hooker, Oklahoma and moved around a lot. Family has always been important to both Althea and Duane. They loved attending everyone’s activities and performance, but most importantly the never missed anyone’s major life events. Duane and Althea traveled near and far to be with family throughout the years. Althea also loved to host pool parties, picnics, and event that could gather the family in her beautiful backyard with the flowers, and how she loved her flowers. We also can’t forget how much Althea loved music, she loved passing musical talents to her family and how much she loved to dance! She also enjoyed traveling and seeing new things. They traveled with an RV for may years and went all over the country from Florida to Alaska. Another favorite pastime throughout the years has been Wahoo, cards, and dominoes. Althea belonged to the Lone Star Friends Church, rural Woods, and attended the First Presbyterian Church and First United Methodist Church in Liberal, Kansas. Althea is survived by her children Charlene Titus of Hutchinson, KS, Jack (Toni) Hamlin of Moscow, KS, Rick (Judy) Hamlin of Hugoton, KS, and Dennis (Kathy) Hamlin of Surprise, AZ, Sister Eva Jean Ratzlaff of Liberal, KS, 7 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren, 2 great-great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
