Donald Ray Worthey, 69, of Liberal, died December 31, 2012, at Via-Christi Regional Medical Center – St Francis, in Wichita.He was born October 25, 1943, at Olney, IL, to Donald Harrison and Evelyn Marie (Forseman) Worthey.He owned W. J. Drilling, in Xenia, IL, then worked for Wes-Kem, Inc., an Industrial Chemical Company, where he served as Operations Supervisor, until retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Xenia Volunteer Fire Dept. for 9 ½ years, and a city councilman for 6 years. He moved to Kansas in 1978. He was superintendent of 38 foster children over the years at Cookson Hills Christian School, in Syracuse, KS. He was a member of Central Christian Church in Liberal.He married Shelby Jean Boston on February 11, 1961, at Xenia, IL. She survives.Other survivors include:2 sons – Criss Allen Worthey and wife Nancy, of Kismet, KS, and Michael Wayne Worthey and wife Jeanne, of Crawfordsville, IN1 daughter – Sandra J. Lloyd, of Tampa, FL1 brother – John Worthey, of Flora, IL3 sisters – Sue Worthey Moriel, of Tornillo, TX, Judy Colclasure, of Flora, IL, and Shirley Mullens, of Plainsville, IN4 grandchildren – Charley Worthey, Madlyn “Maddy” Worthey, Mikale Bell, Kristen Bussey1 great-grandchild – Wendy BellHe was preceded in death by 2 brothers, David Worthey, and Richard Dean “Rick” Worthey.A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Central Christian Church, in Liberal, with Charley Worthey, Ron Davis, and Pastor Chuck Scroggs officiating.There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place.Memorial Contributions may be made to Dialysis Assistance, in care of Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd St., Liberal, KS 67901.
