Donald R. Owens Jr., 54, died Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ. Donald Ray Owens, Jr. was born September 12, 1960 in Nevada, Missouri, the son of Donald Ray and Linda (Baker) Owens.He graduated from Nevada High School in 1978.Don joined Seaboard Foods nearly 15 years ago in March 2000, and served as Seaboard Foods Director of environmental resources, maintenance and construction, and he contributed significantly to the growth and success of Seaboard Foods.Because of his integrity, leadership and friendship, it seems impossible to express in words how much he will be missed. He was as member of the Liberal Country Club, a Trustee for the Seward County Community College/ Area Technical School Foundation and Saints Booster Club member at SCCC.On February 17, 1984, he married Judy (Stewart) Baker at Miami, Oklahoma. She survives. Other survivors include:Mother: Linda Owens of Nevada, MO;3 Sons: AJ Owens of Wichita, KS;Grady Owens of Liberal, KS;Doug Baker of Davis, CA;4 Daughters: Amanda Bearden Oronogo, MO;Amy Owens of Wichita, KS;Huiqiong Lin of Davis, CA;Holly Owens of Liberal, KS;1 Sister: Lisa Wittwer of Portland, OR1 Niece – Alex Huppe of Portland, OR4 Grandchildren: Randy Bearden, James Bearden, Nicole Bearden and Willard Owens.And numerous other family members in Nevada, MO.He was preceded in death by his Father.Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 pm Monday, January 12, 2015 at the First Southern Baptist Church with Mike Riney presiding.Visitation will be 3 -5 pm Sunday at Brenneman Funeral Home, Liberal, with the family present to greet friends. In lieu of Flowers and Plants, memorial contributions may be sent to the SCCC/ATS Foundation for Don Owens Memorial Scholarship or the United Way in care of Brenneman Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Liberal, KS 67901.
