Donald Dean "Don" Michaelis

Donald Dean “Don” Michaelis, age 75, died September 14, 2013 at his residence in Liberal, KS. He was born September 26, 1937 in Russell, KS, the Son of Walter William and Rachel Caroline (Keil) Michaelis. He attended school in Russell, KS and earned his GED while serving in the U.S. Air Force. He had been a resident of Liberal since 1956. He was a former member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golf and loved gardening. He loved spending time with family, fishing with his girls and grandkids.On January 10, 1960, he married Donna Lee Pittser in Hays, KS. She died February 24, 2005.He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1961. He served 18 months in Germany and France. He worked for several area builders, in the construction business, as a carpenter. Survivors include4 Daughters Dinah Plummer and husband Jim, Liberal, KS;Dianna Norton, Liberal, KS; Deanna Dye and husband Shane, Forgan, OK; Dora Dye and husband Shawn, Hutchinson, KS.1 Brother Larry Michaelis and wife Marilyn, Lyons, KS. 3 Sisters Shirley Roth and husband Don, Pahrump, NV;Deloris Hanhardt and husband Kenneth, Bison, KS; Elaine Paulson, Salina, KS. 8 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren and Companion Betty McCart. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 Brothers William “Bill” and Vernard Michaelis and 3 Sisters Sharon Mitchel, Pat Dumler and Melba Khun..Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Andrew Wehling, presiding. Burial will be in the Restlawn Cemetery, Liberal, KS. Military Honors will be conducted by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.Visitation will be 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Tuesday at Brenneman Funeral Home.
