Darma Lee McVey (Thompson), 80, passed away November 15 at Heartis in Arlington, TX. She was born April 2, 1938 in Liberal, KS to Lloyd and Velma Lavon Thompson. She lived the majority of her life in the Liberal and Kismet areas with the last 6 years in Fort Worth, TX. She attended Kismet schools graduating in 1956. She worked for USD 483 in the Kismet and Southwestern Heights schools until her retirement.
On May 23, 1956 she married her high school sweetheart, J.W. “Dubie” McVey. He preceded her in death on September 26, 2009. Together they built their life and family in the Seward County area. They moved to Liberal in 1998. She enjoyed family and friends and especially the family’s many card games. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading and she spent many years accompanying music students at their solo competitions.
She is survived by her children; Cathy (Ronnie) Perdue of Fort Worth, TX, Kip (Gwen) McVey of Longview, TX, Carey (Brian) Brummer of Hoisington, KS, and Stacy McVey of Liberal, KS; seven grandchildren (Andrea, Tom, Sayde, Slader, Kelsey, Hailey and Payton) and 6 great children (Connor, Tommy, Clabe, Jack, Ari and Hank). In addition, she is survived by one brother, Dean Thompson of Coffeyville, KS and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday at Brenneman Funeral Home with Rev. Rex Petty presiding. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southwest Miracles in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brennemanfuneralhome.com.
