Cheryl Marie Friesen, 55, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at her residence, in Liberal. She was born January 3, 1958, at Springfield, IL, to Jack & Joyce (Yard) Whalen.She graduated from Girard High School, Girard, IL, in 1976. She graduated from Illinois State University in 1980, with a degree in Special Education.She was a teacher at West Middle School, from 1980-86, and at Washington and South Elementary Schools, from 1986-2010. She was a substitute teacher for USD 480 since 2010, and was currently, Director of the Latch-Key program. She was secretary for the KSU Extension Board. She was also active with the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, where she served a Director of the Nursery, and as Director of Women’s Ministry. She was also past president of the missionary society. She married Donald E. “Don” Friesen, on July 3, 1987, at Meade, KS. He survives.Other Survivors Include1 daughter, Tiffane Friesen Masimbi and husband Nsail, of Tonganoxie, KSHer parents, Jack and Joyce Whalen, of Girard, IL1 brother, David Whalen and wife Pat, of Virden, IL 1 sister, Linda Gillespie and husband Mike, of Springfield, ILSeveral nieces and nephewsShe was preceded in death by her grandparents, and a sister, Brenda Whalen Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 30 2013, at First Church of the Nazarene, in Liberal, with Pastor Arlen Ankle, officiating.
