Carol Gaylene Schmitzer

Carol Gaylene Schmitzer, Age 86, went to be with the Lord, Monday November 16, 2020, at the Beaver County Nursing Home, in Beaver, Oklahoma after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Carol was born May 17, 1934 on the family farm near Baker, Oklahoma. The daughter of George B. and Mary Agnes (Richie) Clark. She was the 4th of 6 children born to the family at that farm, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
She graduated from Eureka High School in Baker, Oklahoma. She married Fred Schmitzer, they were divorced.
She worked at Beach Aircraft for a time and then was in food service at the Good Samaritan House for many years preparing meals for the residents.
Carol was a member of the Western Avenue Church of Christ for many years. She was very careful with her money and could stretch a dollar. She loved garage sales and shopping in secondhand stores for good bargains.
She was remarkably close to her sisters, especially JoAnn.
She was the beloved mother of
Randy Schmitzer of Trimble, Missouri,
Mark Schmitzer and his wife Rhonda of Berryville, Arkansas,
Rodney Schmitzer and his wife Heather of Chelsea, Oklahoma.
Son in Law Cliff Squire of Mound City, Kansas.
Proud Grandmother of Thomas (Ashley) Schmitzer, Heather (Justin) McMillin, Ashlee Swartz, Hailey Pryor, Mari Lauren Squire, Chad Schmitzer. She was the Great-Grandmother of 17.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Jennifer Squire, 2 brothers Donald Clark & Bobby Clark, 3 sisters Ruth Koontz, Christine Jenkins, JoAnn Allen, her grandson Chase Schmitzer and daughter in law Debra Schmitzer.

Visitation will be Friday, November 20, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM and the Funeral Service will be Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 10:30 AM. Both will be held at the Hornung Family Funeral Home Chapel, 1212 West 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas. Interment will follow at the Liberal Cemetery.

For those attending the services the family has requested that social distancing guidelines be followed and request that all present in the funeral home wear a mask. This is for safety and the best interest everyone’s health; we will use social media to offer condolences and support to the family in lieu of attending. Per family wishes the service will be available on face book live.
