Celia “Janet” Nordling, age 83, died Monday, March 5, 2012 at her residence in Hugoton, KS. She was born June 13, 1928 in Wichita, KS, the daughter of Clarence A. and Katherine G. (Seibert ) Owen. She graduated from McPherson High School and then, later in life, graduated from Friends University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Resource Management. On August 15, 1948, she married Leland “Lee” Ebben Nordling. He died March 30, 1987.After her husband, Lee, had completed law school, they lived in Johnson, KS. In 1965, they moved to Hugoton, KS and were long time residents of the community.She was a homemaker. She was an avid reader, loved to travel when her health allowed and was always caring for her family. She was a member of Lighthouse Fellowship Church, Women’s Aglow Fellowship Hugoton Chapter, Alcoholics Anonymous in Hugoton and actively mentored many in the 12 step program. Survivors include:1 Son - Swen Nordling and wife Brenda of Omaha, NE 2 Daughters - Katherine Thompson and husband David of Liberal, KS Melanie Hickey and husband Don of Hugoton, KS 1 Brother - Robert Owen of Wichita, KS 1 Sister - Diana Owen of Hugoton, KS 7 Grandchildren Anneliese Thompson, Anders Thompson, Lucas Hickey and wife Nycole, Lauren Potter and husband Casey, Laine Copeland and husband Bruce, Kayla Wilson and husband Nate and Tasha Clerc and husband Jacques 9 Great-Grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 Son Ebben Lee Nordling, 2 Brothers Arthur Owen and Charles Owen, 2 Grandchildren Anna-Britta Thompson and Olian Hayes Thompson.Graveside service will be 10:00 am Wednesday, March 7, at Hugoton Cemetery. Memorial service will follow at 11:30 am Wednesday at First Christian Church in Hugoton, KS with Pastor Michael T. Taylor presiding. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Tuesday at First Christian Church, Hugoton with the family present to greet friends.
